The Romberg test is a balance assessment where patients stand with feet together and arms folded, first with eyes open, then closed. Normative data is available, but different stances require different norms. A positive test indicates balance issues when eyes are closed, and any step or arm movement is recorded as a fall. The test is useful for diagnosing peripheral neuropathy, acute vestibular loss in older adults, and functional balance issues.
