Simon Bolívar, a key figure in Latin American history, liberated much of South America from Spanish rule in the 19th century. Born in Venezuela, he was educated in Europe, where he was inspired by Napoleon. Bolívar vowed to free South America and led successful military campaigns across the continent. Despite his victories, his vision of a united South America was never realized due to political instability and separatist movements. Bolívar resigned as president of Greater Colombia and died shortly after, with Bolivia named in his honor.
