In Aesop's fable 'The Lion and the Mouse', a mouse accidentally disturbs a sleeping lion. The lion threatens to eat the mouse, but the mouse pleads for mercy, promising to repay the lion's kindness. Amused, the lion lets the mouse go. Later, the lion is trapped in a net and roars for help. The mouse hears the lion's cries, gnaws through the ropes, and frees him. The lion learns that even small creatures can be helpful, and kindness given is kindness returned.
