In 'The Mitten' by Jan Brett, a boy named Nicky desires snow white mittens, which his grandmother Baba reluctantly knits. As Nicky ventures out, he loses a mitten in the snow. Various animals, including a mole, rabbit, hedgehog, owl, badger, fox, and bear, find and squeeze into the mitten for warmth. The mitten stretches to accommodate them all until a mouse tickles the bear, causing a sneeze that sends the mitten flying. Nicky eventually finds the mitten and returns home, where Baba checks that he is safe and has both mittens.
