Gráinne, daughter of King Cormac, is furious when she learns she is to marry the aging Fionn MacCoy instead of a young warrior. During a banquet, she meets Diarmuid, a handsome soldier, and casts a spell binding them together. They flee from Fionn's wrath, aided by the giant Modan. Despite Fionn's relentless pursuit, he eventually calls off the chase after losing the respect of his men. Years later, during a boar hunt, Diarmuid is mortally wounded. Fionn hesitates to save him, and Diarmuid dies, leaving Fionn to regret his actions.
