Poland is predominantly a lowland country with 91% of its area being lowlands. The terrain is characterized by a northwestern slope and a belt-like arrangement. There are six main terrain belts: Coastal, Lake Districts, Central Lowlands, Polish Uplands, Subcarpathian Basins, and Mountain Ranges. The Coastal Belt features dunes and cliffs shaped by glacial activity and the Baltic Sea. The Lake Districts are known for their glacial landscapes with numerous lakes. The Central Lowlands are flat with some low hills and wide river valleys, shaped by ancient glaciations and erosion. The Polish Uplands have diverse terrain influenced by geological formations, including limestone karst landscapes and ravines. The Subcarpathian Basins are natural depressions formed by tectonic movements. The Mountain Ranges include the block mountains of the Sudetes and the fold mountains of the Carpathians, each with distinct geological compositions.
