The Chicken Rescue Ranch, founded in 2004, initially focused on rescuing toucans from the pet trade in Costa Rica. With changing laws prohibiting wild animals as pets, the ranch expanded to various wildlife due to increasing demand. Costa Rica's rich biodiversity faces threats from human activities, leading to the ranch receiving around 450 animals annually, with only 40 being released. Many animals remain due to injuries or human imprinting. The ranch has seen a rise in sloth rescues, particularly babies, and works to rehabilitate them for release. The long-term goal is to educate and involve more people in conservation efforts, setting a foundation for future wildlife protection.
