Prince Rupert, the King's nephew, was a young and charismatic figure at the Battle of Edge Hill. Despite his youthful appearance, he was a seasoned soldier with experience in the Dutch Army. Captured in 1638, he spent three years in captivity, during which he studied military history. By 1642, he was a competent officer and a natural leader, making him an ideal choice to command the Royalist Cavalry. In Vienna, he received a pet poodle named Boy, who was later killed in battle, much to Rupert's sorrow.
