Scientists analyzed DNA from 34 ancient individuals in Siberia, East Asia, and Finland, dating back 31,600 to 600 years. They compared these with DNA from ancient and modern humans across Eurasia and North America. The first human groups in Siberia were ancient North Siberians, now extinct. Two more migratory waves from East Asia followed, with the Neo-Siberians being the third. Modern Siberians trace their ancestry to this group. A new group, ancient North Siberians, was discovered from remains near the Yana river. These were initially thought to be linked to early Native North Americans but were found unrelated. Native North Americans resulted from a bond between East Asians and a population distantly linked to ancient Northern Siberians around 20,000 years ago.
