Teddy Roosevelt began his political career in New York as a Progressive Republican. He gained fame during the Spanish-American War, leading to his governorship. As Vice President under McKinley, he became President after McKinley's death in 1901. Domestically, he was known for the Square Deal, antitrust actions, and conservation efforts.
