9,000 cold-stunned sea turtles rescued off Texas coast

A severe weather event in Texas caused power and water outages and led to the largest cold stunning event of sea turtles in US history. Nearly 9,400 turtles were rescued along the Texas coast. Cold stunning occurs when water temperatures drop below 50°F, causing turtles to become paralyzed and vulnerable. Rescued turtles are being cared for at the South Padre Island Convention Center and will be released when ocean temperatures rise above 55°F.
