Emperor Theodosius I banned them in 393 AD. The Olympics were revived in Athens in 1896, featuring multiple events and nations. They gained international recognition in 1924 in Paris and grew in popularity with the first televised games in 1936. Today, the Olympics are a prestigious global event with over 200 nations participating.
