Body integrity identity disorder (BID) is a rare condition where individuals desire to be disabled due to a mismatch between their ideal body image and physical appearance. This neurological condition is linked to cognitive mismapping in the brain, causing parts of the body to feel foreign. BID is often associated with anxiety and depression. While treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy and antidepressants are used, there is no cure. Ethical concerns prevent surgical solutions. BID is more common in males and can be linked to gender identity and personality disorders.
