This condition caused severe dental pain and inflammation for over 18 months. After local doctors failed to diagnose him, he was referred to specialists in Bombay. The surgery might set a world record for the number of teeth extracted. Gawai is currently under observation, and the case was reported by Luis Velarde from the Associated Press.
