Despite 50 eruptions since Wednesday, authorities state that areas outside the evacuation zone remain safe. Sinabung, standing at 2,600 meters, is one of Indonesia's 130 active volcanoes, with sporadic eruptions since 2010 after 400 years of dormancy.
