The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons announced that Syria has evacuated its declared chemical weapons arsenal, achieving a significant milestone before the June 30 deadline. Despite this success, the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria remains a concern. Syria joined the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2013 as part of an agreement between the US and Russia to dismantle its arsenal. Both the Assad regime and rebels have accused each other of using chemical agents since the conflict began in 2011.
