VOICED : Brasileno Azevedo dirigira OMC

Roberto Azevedo, a Brazilian diplomat, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). He won the position in a close competition against Mexican candidate Hermini Blanco. Azevedo has been Brazil's representative to the WTO since 2008, earning a reputation as a skilled negotiator and consensus builder. His main objectives include revitalizing the WTO and advancing the stalled Doha Round. Azevedo, 55, was born in Salvador de Bahía, studied engineering at the University of Brasilia, and pursued a diplomatic career since 1984.
