The Neo-Babylonian Empire, also known as the Chaldean Empire, was the last of the Mesopotamian empires before the Islamic conquest. It was founded by migrating tribes from the Arabian Peninsula and reached its peak under Nebuchadnezzar II, known for his military and administrative prowess. The empire expanded from the Arabian Gulf to the Mediterranean. After Nebuchadnezzar, weaker kings led to its fall to the Persians in 538 BC. Alexander the Great later conquered it, followed by the Seleucids, Romans, and Persians again, until the Islamic conquest in 632 AD ushered in a new era.
