Kate from MinuteEarth explains that most rain never reaches the ground, as it either falls on oceans or evaporates before reaching land. Computer simulations suggest 40% of rain evaporates mid-air. When rain does reach land, it mostly falls on forests, where trees intercept it. Trees can't absorb water through leaves, so most water drips to the ground, but some evaporates back into the sky. Overall, more than half of the rain over land evaporates, equivalent to 15 Amazon rivers, reducing flooding damage.
