Honeybees face threats from parasites and diseases, but propolis, a natural substance they produce, can help. Bees collect resins from trees, mix them with wax, and create propolis, which has antibiotic properties. In the wild, bees use propolis to sanitize their nests, but in commercial hives, they only use it to seal gaps. By altering hive designs to encourage more propolis use, beekeepers can improve bee health, reduce infections in larvae, and support pollination and honey production.
