In the early 1820s, American settlers moved to Texas, then under Mexican control, to act as a buffer against hostile Indians. By the 1830s, tensions rose as Mexico restricted American immigration and abolished slavery. Texan revolutionaries, including both Anglos and Tejanos, sought independence. The Alamo became a pivotal battle where Texan defenders, including Davy Crockett, resisted Mexican forces. Despite their defeat, they delayed the Mexican army, allowing Texans to regroup.
