Marine turtles are ancient reptiles that have existed since the time of dinosaurs. They are adapted to life in the ocean with streamlined bodies and flippers. Turtles cannot leave their shells, which are integral to their bodies. They consume various marine animals but face threats from ocean pollution, mistaking plastic for food. Despite living in water, turtles need to surface for air. Their scales help them blend into their environment. Turtles are mostly solitary, only gathering to mate, and are related to marine iguanas. While turtles swim with flippers, iguanas use their tails.
