The human brain controls bodily functions and is divided into the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The forebrain, or cerebrum, is responsible for intelligence, memory, and emotions, and is divided into left and right hemispheres. The midbrain coordinates messages between the brain and spinal cord. The hindbrain, including the cerebellum and medulla, manages balance and automatic functions like breathing and heart rate. The brain is protected by the skull, meninges, and cerebrospinal fluid.
