The Anglo-Somali War, also known as the Dervish War, was a conflict between Britain and Somalia from 1901 to 1920. Led by Said Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, the Dervish movement resisted British colonialism, promoting Somali sovereignty and nationalism. Despite initial successes, the Dervishes were eventually defeated due to British military superiority and divide-and-rule tactics. The war resulted in significant casualties and destruction, leading to British colonial rule until Somalia's independence in 1960. The Dervish movement became a symbol of Somali resistance and pride.
