Anne Frank received a diary on her 13th birthday, which she used to document her life in hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam. The Frank family moved from Germany to Amsterdam to escape Nazi persecution but were later forced into hiding in a secret annex. Anne's diary, addressed to 'Kitty', detailed her experiences and relationships during this time. The family was eventually discovered and deported to Auschwitz, where Anne died of typhus at 15. Her diary was published posthumously as 'The Diary of a Young Girl', becoming a celebrated work of the 20th century.
