Elastomers are materials that can be stretched to a large strain and return to their original shape. Rubber and the elastic tissue of the aorta are examples. These materials lack a well-defined plastic limit and break when the elastic limit is exceeded. They do not follow Hooke's Law, and their stress-strain relationship is non-linear. Young's modulus is small, allowing for a large range of elastic extension.
