Tensions rose as settlers clashed with Mexican laws, especially regarding slavery and tariffs. This led to rebellions and the signing of a Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836. The Alamo siege became a pivotal event, with Mexican forces defeating the Texan rebels. However, the Texans achieved victory at the Battle of San Jacinto, securing their independence from Mexico.
