Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh and was initially classified as the smallest and farthest planet in the solar system. However, in 2006, it was reclassified as a dwarf planet due to new criteria set by the International Astronomical Union, which it did not meet. The discovery of Eris, another celestial body, prompted this reclassification. Despite its downgrade, Pluto remains a significant object of study, with NASA's New Horizons mission launched to explore it further.
