The Valley of the Kings is a significant archaeological site in Egypt, home to the tombs of New Kingdom pharaohs. Since the late 1700s, archaeologists have uncovered numerous tombs of pharaohs, royal family members, and courtiers. Unlike earlier kings who were buried in pyramids, New Kingdom pharaohs chose underground tombs to deter robbers. These tombs were designed with passageways and hidden chambers to protect the buried treasures. However, over time, most tombs were still ransacked despite these efforts.
