In 1934, aviation pioneer Wiley Post prepared for a record-breaking transcontinental flight across America. Despite losing an eye in an accident, Post became an aviation adventurer with two round-the-world flight records. To fly faster, he needed to reach 50,000 feet, where the air is too thin to survive. Post collaborated with BF Goodrich engineer Russell Coley to develop a pressure suit. Coley, who initially wanted to be a fashion designer, faced the challenge of creating a suit that maintained air pressure while remaining flexible. The suit was stitched on a home sewing machine. During the flight, Post reached the jet stream, achieving speeds faster than his plane's design. Although he didn't set a new record due to low oxygen, Post proved survival at high altitudes was possible.
