In 2010, paleontologist Dan Sepa discovered the bones of Pelagornis Sandersi, the largest flying bird ever, in a Charleston museum. This bird had a wingspan of 24 feet and weighed only 48 pounds due to its hollow bones. Despite its size, it could fly using dynamic soaring, similar to the wandering albatross, by exploiting wind currents over the ocean. This allowed it to travel vast distances with minimal energy.
