Hugo Chávez left Caracas on February 24 for a second surgery in Havana, unaware of the medical news awaiting him. Despite undergoing radiotherapy, Chávez remained optimistic, as there were no signs of cancer spread or metastasis. After 13 years in power, the 57-year-old president aimed for re-election in the upcoming October elections, confident of victory, especially over his illness.
