On Palm Sunday, 1965, 37 tornadoes struck the Midwest, devastating six states, with Indiana being the worst hit. The death toll reached over 250, and President Johnson visited Indiana to assess the damage, estimated at $237 million. Rescue workers continued to search for bodies, fearing more victims were trapped under debris. Many towns, like Rusherville, were nearly destroyed, leaving communities to decide whether to rebuild or relocate.
