The plan to build tropical sauna islands in Helsinki’s frozen sea

The Helsinki Hot Project, winner of the Helsinki Energy Challenge, plans to build an archipelago of 10 artificial islands near the city. These islands will feature large water basins powered by renewable energy sources like wind and sunlight. The basins will act as thermal batteries, storing hot water for the city's heat distribution network. Additionally, four islands will serve as recreational parks with pools and tropical forests under transparent domes, inspired by the Finnish ideal of enjoying nature.
