Genetic link may exist between endometriosis and depression

The University of Technology in Australia discovered a genetic link between depression and endometriosis, along with various gastrointestinal conditions. Researchers identified 20 genome locations significant to both conditions, with eight being new discoveries. Endometriosis involves the endometrium growing outside the uterus, causing irritation and inflammation. Symptoms include severe pain, and treatments range from painkillers to surgery.
