Al-Mu'allaqat are long poems from the pre-Islamic era. The name may derive from their quick memorization by people, their writing in gold and hanging on the Kaaba, or their resemblance to jewelry. The number of Al-Mu'allaqat varies, with some sources citing seven, nine, or ten. The seven poets include Imru' al-Qais, Tarafa, Zuhayr, Labid, Amr ibn Kulthum, Antarah ibn Shaddad, and Al-Harith ibn Hilliza.
