Reflex movements occur without conscious awareness and are faster than voluntary actions. An example is the quick withdrawal of a hand from a hot object to prevent injury. Reflex actions are processed in the spinal cord and medulla, bypassing the brain. The process begins with a heat stimulus detected by skin receptors, sending an impulse via sensory nerves to the spinal cord. The impulse then travels through motor nerves to the arm muscles, causing a rapid reaction to avoid harm.
