NIH Says Experimental HIV Vaccine Has Been Found Ineffective

The National Institutes of Health ended an HIV vaccine trial in South Africa after an interim review showed the vaccine did not prevent HIV. The trial, which began in 2016, involved over 5000 HIV-negative volunteers aged 18 to 35. The vaccine was based on a previous trial in Thailand, which showed some protection against HIV. However, the recent trial found no significant difference in infection rates between the vaccine and placebo groups. Consequently, the trial was deemed ineffective and halted. Despite this, researchers remain committed to exploring other HIV prevention methods.
