Man fitted with first-ever bionic eye, sees wife for the first time

James, blind in his left eye and with limited vision in his right, received a bionic eye implant. A microchip with 1500 electrodes was placed beneath his retina, converting light into electric signals sent to the brain. The chip is powered by a battery pack and supported by an external device for image processing. Three weeks after surgery, James regained basic vision, allowing him to see his wife for the first time.
