Colombia has the highest death toll from landmines after decades of conflict. The Halo Trust, a British NGO, is training local volunteers to safely detonate mines, aiming to train 300 by 2013. Many volunteers are victims of the conflict, like Gloria Vasquez, who was injured by a landmine at 15. The Colombian Army's demining program is behind schedule, with a target pushed to 2021. The Halo Trust hopes to bridge the gap and reduce the threat of landmines in Colombia.
