Mexico has increased surveillance at its border with Guatemala to prevent unaccompanied minors from entering the country. The National Institute of Migration reported identifying over 4,000 Central American minors traveling irregularly since January. The government aims to protect these minors from criminal networks. Additionally, Mexico has implemented COVID-19 restrictions on non-essential land travel at its borders. This is the first time such measures have been applied at the Guatemala border since the pandemic began. The flow of undocumented immigrants has risen since President Biden took office, as he dismantles some of Trump's policies.
