Alejandro González Iñárritu, a renowned Mexican filmmaker, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Despite lacking formal cinematic education, Iñárritu has masterfully combined cinematography with human and scenic art, highlighting social injustices faced by migrants. He was honored alongside other distinguished figures, including biologist Alicia Bárcena and geologist Donald Bruce Dingwell. Iñárritu, who has directed six Oscar-nominated films, became the third director to win the Academy Award for Best Director consecutively in 2016.
