José Manuel Calderón's son was forcibly recruited by FARC at age 11. After a decade, Calderón received his son's remains, among 29 others, as part of a humanitarian agreement between the Colombian government and FARC. This agreement is part of a peace process in Cuba. The remains were identified by the Fiscalía after being buried in mass graves. The ceremony marked the first large-scale return of remains in over 50 years of conflict. Estimates suggest up to 100,000 people disappeared during the conflict. Some families chose to bury their relatives in Villavicencio, marking their names on vaults.
