CERN approves proposal for €21 billion successor to Large Hadron Collider

The Future Circular Collider, a new 100 km super collider, is set to be 73 km larger than the Large Hadron Collider. Construction is expected to start in 2038 with a cost of at least €21 billion. The project will be developed in two stages: first, an electron-positron collider to study Higgs Boson particles, and second, a proton-proton smasher capable of reaching 1100 Tera electron volts. This is a significant increase from the Large Hadron Collider's 16 Tera electron volts, allowing for the study of new particles.
