It mandates health professionals to report individuals unfit to own guns due to health reasons and establishes a national firearms register. Additionally, gun licenses must be renewed every five years. In April, New Zealand banned most semi-automatic firearms and initiated a buyback program, resulting in over 19,100 firearms and 71,000 accessories being surrendered.
