However, the Egyptians in Rosetta and Hamad fiercely resisted, forcing the British to retreat to Alexandria. Due to the Egyptians' bravery, Fraser sought peace in exchange for releasing prisoners. Mohamed Ali entered Alexandria victorious, marking the failure of the British campaign.
