The past July was one of the hottest on record globally, despite a weak La Niña event, which typically cools global temperatures. The World Meteorological Organization reported this and called on global leaders to address the increasing frequency of heatwaves, expected to continue until the 2060s due to climate change. Severe droughts were noted in parts of Europe and South America, while wetter conditions were observed in regions of Asia.
