A geological wonder

Cappadocia in Central Turkey is home to numerous fairy chimneys formed by volcanic activity and erosion. These structures were inhabited until the 1980s when government rent demands led to their abandonment. Remaining residents face maintenance challenges, particularly from water damage, which threatens the chimneys' stability. Preservation efforts are complicated by the need for government permission and lack of interest. While some chimneys receive subsidies due to their World Heritage status, many do not, risking collapse and endangering tourists.
