VOICED: Machu Picchu reopens after floods

Machu Picchu reopened on April 1st after being closed for two months due to landslides and heavy rains that claimed seven lives. The closure significantly impacted Peru's tourism industry, costing around $185 million. Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon was honored as a daughter of Machu Picchu during her visit. Earlier in the year, heavy rains damaged the railway, stranding 4000 tourists who were airlifted by the Peruvian Armed Forces. Despite its challenging location, efforts are underway to improve access to Machu Picchu. With the train service restored, tourism in Cusco is back to normal.
