In Peru, organizations distributed 200,000 condoms to prevent STDs and offered free HIV tests. A survey by AIDS Healthcare Foundation showed that 9 out of 10 Peruvians have unprotected sex, with 85% of men and 91% of women rarely using condoms. This exposes them to STDs and HIV, with 79,000 people living with HIV in Peru. The survey also revealed that many Peruvians start sexual activity before age 14. Since 2012, AHF has conducted campaigns for International Condom Day to promote safe sex practices.
